The smallest hotel in Flims Laax

Hedgehog hotel

The smallest hotel in Flims Laax

Hotel Laubträumli

Our prickly neighbors have gotten their own hedgehog hotel in the heart of Laax.

It’s a structure that combines protection, sustainability, and a nod to Peaks Place. Designed by mechanical engineer Josua Glünkin, it shows how charmingly architecture and nature can work together.

Want to take a look at what is probably the sportiest hedgehog hotel in Surselva?

A peek into the hedgehog hotel

A home in harmony with nature

Sustainability in the hedgehog hotel

The Hedgehog Hotel impresses not only with its unique architecture, but also with its clear commitment to sustainability.

Made from sturdy spruce wood, its jagged shape and three multifunctional roofs allow it to blend harmoniously into the natural environment. Two of the roof surfaces are covered with greenery, providing ample food for bees, beetles, and other garden dwellers.

The rear area is designed as a protected sleeping area – ideal for snuggling up and retreating. This creates a small refuge that provides a valuable habitat not only for hedgehogs, but also for many other animals.

Sporting spirit in miniature

The pump track at the Igel Hotel

The architect has created something very special for guests at the Igel Hotel: a pump track on the roof.

Here, the little ones can do their laps and burn off their energy—in keeping with the sporting spirit for which Laax is known.

The pump track connects the architecture of the building with the active lifestyle of the region and makes the hotel a place where even our little guests with prickles feel completely at home.

Josua Glünkin

The architect behind the hedgehog hotel

For the architect of the Igel Hotel, sustainability plays an important role that goes far beyond mere construction.

As a mechanical engineer, he is accustomed to consciously selecting materials and paying attention to recycling. He has also brought this mindset to the project: “We take our raw materials from nature—and that’s why I want to give something back with my work.”

For him, the green roof areas are an expression of this attitude: they allow the small hotel to become one with its surroundings while also providing food and shelter for many other animals.

With short legs on long tours

Did you know?

Did you know that a hedgehog can cover up to 3 kilometers in a single night? With their short legs, they may look slow, but they are actually endurance runners—always on the hunt for food.

So it’s no wonder that our prickly guests need a cozy place to rest after their nightly adventures in the Laubträumli.
