From the Calfeisen Pass over the Segnes Pass, through the mountains of Flims-Laax
Two Passes, One Tour
Two passes, vast Segnesböden meadows, and rocky scree fields where sometimes only cairns mark the way. This tour through the mountains of Flims Laax promises adventure.
At 2,780 meters, the Calfeisen Pass marks the highest point of the tour. Along the way: the Upper and Lower Segnesböden, the majestic Tschingelhörner, and a view through the Martinsloch that you won’t soon forget.
A tour where the next highlight awaits after every climb.

From Peaks Place to Cassons
The starting point of the Two-Pass Hike
The tour starts right at Peaks Place. I take the bus from Laax Rancho to the valley station in Flims—it’s even free with the guest card. From there, the FlemX takes me up to Cassons.
Once I reach the top at around 2,500 meters, the valley quickly fades into the distance. Before me lie the vast Segnesböden, rugged mountain slopes, and the first glimpse of what’s to come today. From here, I continue on foot, and the adventure begins.
On the way to the Calfeisen Pass at 2,780 meters
Via the Upper Segnesboden
From Cassons, the trail takes me across the upper Segnesboden toward the Calfeisen Pass. At first, the terrain is wide and open, but it grows rougher with every step. Small mountain streams cross the path, and beneath my boots, the ground alternates between rock, loose scree, and patches of snow.
The closer I get to the Calfeisen Pass, the more attention the route demands. In some places, the usual trail markers disappear, and cairns show me the way forward. Hiking poles are a real help, especially on the rocky sections.
Ahead of me now lies the highest point of the hike: the Calfeisen Pass at 2,780 meters.

Arrived at 2,780 meters
Once I reach the top, it’s clear: the climb was worth it. At 2,780 meters, I’m standing on the Calfeisen Pass—the highest point of the hike.
The view stretches far across the Flims Valley all the way to Crap Sogn Gion. I pause for a moment to enjoy the view, and then I continue on toward the Tschingelhörner and Martinsloch.
Toward Tschingelhörner and Martinsloch
At the Sardona World Heritage Site
From the Calfeisen Pass, the trail heads downhill for a bit before I reach the Sardona World Heritage Route 73 at the upper Segnesboden.
From here on, the striking Tschingelhörner peaks accompany me on my way toward the Segnes Pass. And then it comes into view: the Martinsloch, perfectly framed between the rocks and directly in my line of sight. “Wow.”
The second pass is waiting
A rocky climb to the Segnes Pass
Just before the Segnes Pass, things get challenging once again. A short, rocky climb demands a bit more effort before I reach the second pass of the tour.
At the top, the view opens up in both directions: on one side, across the lower Segnesboden and the mountains of Flims; on the other, Elm. Two sides of the mountain, with the Segnes Pass right in the middle.
The Tschingelhörner Up Close Once Again
The Lower Segnesboden
From the Segnes Pass, the trail leads down to the Lower Segnesboden. Once you reach the bottom, the view back toward the Tschingelhörner is especially worth seeing.
The Glarus Main Thrust can be clearly seen in the rock faces: older rock layers lie above younger ones here, a visible result of the massive shifts that occurred during the formation of the Alps. It is precisely this geological phenomenon that makes the Sardona Tectonic Arena a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site.
Take the FlemX or walk to Flims
Back down to the valley
From lower Segnesboden, the route continues to the Segnes station. After all the sights and the climb, the FlemX comes in just at the right time here and takes you back to Flims in comfort.
If you’re not quite ready to call it a day, you can, of course, cover the last few kilometers on foot. From Flims, take the bus back to Peaks Place—tired legs and all—but with a tour in your mind that will definitely stay with you.
