The mountain is calling

Snowshoeing toward the sunrise

Start early. Aim high.

Snowshoe tour Laax – Curnius

Some days don’t start with coffee, but with a headlamp, snow under your feet, and the feeling that something special is about to happen.

Hi, I’m Helena, and I’m taking you on a snowshoe tour that starts before the day has really awakened in Flims Laax. We’ll set off from Peaks Place, step by step uphill, into the silence of the early morning hours.

It’s one of those tours where the focus is not on the destination, but on the journey itself. The slow dawn, the tranquility, being on the move while others are still asleep.

Strap on your snowshoes, the mountain is calling!

Out of the apartment, into the morning

The start

I rented the snowshoes the night before at the reception desk. So in the morning, all I have to do is leave the apartment and head for the valley station in Laax.

It’s 6 a.m. and Laax is still quiet. The path feels easy, almost natural. I only stop when I reach the valley station.

I strap on my snowshoes, adjust my headlamp, and take a deep breath. From here, it’s uphill. The snow crunches beneath me as I set off on my journey. Let the adventure begin!

An almost magical morning

Step by step to the top

After the first few meters uphill, I find my rhythm. My snowshoes grip the snow gently, each step is steady.

With every meter of altitude, the mood changes. The sky is still dark, but no longer black. A delicate blue spreads over the mountains, almost imperceptibly. That’s exactly why I set off so early.

The path climbs steadily. No distractions, no destination in sight. Just my own breath and the crunching under my feet.

At some point, I realize: it’s no longer night. The day is dawning, very quietly.

A sunrise in its most beautiful form

Early summit joy

The path suddenly opens up. Not far, not spectacular, but at exactly the right moment.

The sky has brightened without me really noticing. Only now do I notice it. The mountains stand out clearly, the snow begins to glisten, very finely, almost discreetly.

I stop. Of course I take a photo. More than one. After all, I set off so early for this moment ;).

The sunrise is now really taking off. Colors, light, contrasts. A show, but without all the hustle and bustle. Just me and this special moment.

Enough marveling, now let’s move on!

A moment for myself

Curnius in the first light

The path flattens out, a few more steps and Curnius lies peacefully before me.

It is light now. Clear visibility, blue sky, the mountains reveal themselves without filter. No one else is out yet. This brief moment before the day of skiing begins is mine alone.

I sit down, let my gaze wander, and open my thermos flask of hot coffee.

Up here, a decision must be made: do I continue climbing, or do I enjoy the morning here and descend again soon…

The path to Crap Sogn Gion

Still not enough?

For those who haven’t had enough after Curnius, the route continues upwards. The path towards Crap Sogn Gion is open.

It’s not a decision against arriving, but for a little more altitude, more distance, more travel. Those who feel like it can continue. Those who prefer to enjoy the peace and quiet of the morning a little longer can stay seated.

That’s the beauty of this tour: it adapts to you, not the other way around.

No matter which option you choose, I would say that the morning has delivered.
