Cooling down with a view
Glacier mills on the Alp Mora
In this article, our marketing employee Carla takes you on an e-bike ride to the natural whirlpools on Alp Mora. The glacier mills are a natural spectacle that you definitely have to experience and should be on your bucket list for your vacation in Flims Laax. Take a look for yourself:
A cozy start to the day
Through the Flims forest to the Il Spir viewing platform
Our e-bike tour started at Peaks Place and led directly into the idyllic Flims forest. Wide paths, great views of Lake Cauma and morning tranquillity awaited us. On the way towards Trin, we took a short break at the famous Il Spir viewing platform and marveled at the impressive Rhine Gorge. Incidentally, this is also known as the Ruinaulta or Swiss Grand Canyon.
Did you know: The history of the Rhine Gorge began around 9500 years ago with the huge Flims landslide. Since then, the Rhine has wound its way along its original riverbed for 14 kilometers, past 350-meter-high white cliffs.
After Trin it’s uphill
Ascent to Alp Mora
After the tour through the Flims forest, we made our way to the small village of Trin. The ascent to Alp Mora awaited us there. On a road with hardly any traffic, the route took us past traditional mountain pastures and with a constant view of the Signina group for a few kilometers uphill. When I saw Alp Mora from afar, I was highly motivated to pedal hard again.

Glacier mills on the Alp Mora
After pedalling uphill for a few kilometers, we reached Alp Mora and parked our e-bikes there. We walked the last stretch on foot along a hiking trail until we finally reached the Strudeltöpfe at around 2100 meters above sea level. We couldn’t miss out on cooling off in the glacier mills with a wonderful view. After our picnic with local specialties, we were already looking forward to the descent into the valley.
Did you know: The Maliensbach stream, which has its source on the Alp Mora in Trin, has washed out large troughs over the centuries, which line up like pearls and are filled with glacier water after the snow melts.
Just let it run
The descent into the valley
Once we got back to our e-bikes, it was time to just let go, feel the wind in our hair and really enjoy the view of the Grisons mountains and valleys. We finished our tour in Trin and took the bus back to Laax. However, you can also cycle back to Peaks Place on your e-bike through the villages or the Flims forest.
Morning peace, mountain panorama and cooling off
Highlights of the e-bike tour
On the way to the whirlpools on Alp Mora, we first enjoyed the morning peace and quiet in the Flims forest with a view of the imposing Rhine Gorge. However, the top highlight of the tour was definitely the cooling off in the glacier mills and the subsequent descent to Trin. At the end of the day, we were tired but proud to have done this tour to the glacier mills, which was definitely worth it.

- Take enough to drink (there are hardly any fountains to refill your bottles along the way)
- Saving the battery is worthwhile (we recommend not riding the whole tour in turbo mode on the e-bike so that the battery lasts safely to Alp Mora)
- Take swimwear with you so that you can cool off at the glacier mills
